The following is being distributed on behalf of Sport Newfoundland and Labrador:

Badminton Canada Atlantic development initiative

Badminton Canada and the four Atlantic provincial badminton associations have entered into a partnership designed to promote the growth and development of badminton in the Atlantic Region. Mike Alexander, of Kippens, has been appointed as manager, Atlantic Development Initiative (ADI).

The manager (ADI) is responsible for Badminton Canada (BCAN) sponsored technical and marketing initiatives targeted at improving the level and scope of play in the Atlantic region. Primarily, the manager acts as Badminton Canada's official liaison with the Presidents and/or staff of the Atlantic Member Associations (Newfoundland and Labrador, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island) for all activities determined as part of the Atlantic Development Initiative.

A key part of this position will be the planning and management of an effective coach education plan for the Atlantic region to ensure appropriate numbers of active coaches and levels of expertise are secured for future Atlantic development needs at both the grassroots and high performance levels.

The manager (ADI) will also be responsible for the management of an identification and streaming process for Atlantic athletes (U18 and younger) identified by BCAN and Atlantic Provincial Badminton Associations as having potential to compete at the national/international level. This includes the authority to select Atlantic athletes for identified out-of-region opportunities (such as support for national/international competitions) and for in-region opportunities (such as selection for Atlantic Junior Elite training camps). Mike can be reached at (709) 643-9869 or m.alex@warp.nfld.net
