Executive director announced

Sport Newfoundland and Labrador (SNL) is pleased to announce the appointment of their new executive director, Troy Croft of St. Johns. Troy brings to SNL an extensive background in business, marketing, corporate relationships along with a sporting background as an athlete and coach.

As a former elite athlete he is the only Newfoundland born player to have won a gold medal with Team Canada at the 1991 World Baseball Championships, he was a member of the 1993 Newfoundland and Labrador Canada Games Team, and played at the Academy of Baseball Canada for four years in Montreal. Troy currently plays baseball for the Gonzaga Vikings in the St. Johns Senior Baseball League.

Troy is currently the head coach of the Newfoundland and Labrador Canada Summer Games Baseball Team. Prior to becoming the head coach of the team, he served as assistant coach for the 1997 and 2001 Canada Games Teams. Troy will be taking his team to Florida later this month for a pre-Canada Games exhibition series.

For the last four years Troy has been with the St. Johns Maple Leafs Hockey Club where he has gained valuable experience as marketing assistant and game operations coordinator overseeing all aspects of the production of each hockey game. Dave Brenton, president of SNL said, "Troys experience with the St. Johns Maple Leafs Hockey Club as game operations coordinator, and in particular marketing assistant, should serve him well in forging strong community partnerships as we advance in our quest to expand, improve and provide new and positive initiatives to the many programs SNL offers to sport in our province. As part of our mandate we look forward to continued partnerships and a renewed energy for sport in Newfoundland and Labrador."

Troy has earned a degree in sport management from Concordia University in Montreal and is currently working towards his masters degree from MUN in sport administration.

Troys appointment is effective immediately and he can be contacted by telephone at (709) 576-4932 or by e-mail at snl@sportnf.com
