Long course champs results for 2005

Twelve clubs, representing 279 swimmers from throughout the province, met at the Aquarena in St. John's, May 27-29, to compete in The Long Course Champs/Canada Games Trial Swim Meet. Competition got underway on Friday morning and concluded on Sunday evening.

A male and female top achiever in both AA and AAA divisions was named in the following age groups based on individual scoring, with 5-2-1 points awarded for each first, second or third place finish.

The Jacinta Sheppard Memorial Award, based on the highest ranking swim scored on the SNC World Point Chart during finals, was presented to Laura Murray of the Mount Pearl Marlins with a score of 875.

Other meet highlights:

Laura Murray of the Mount Pearl Marlins broke her own provincial record of 59:59 set earlier this month in Montreal at the world qualifying trials in the 15-17 age group with a time of 58:88.

The Swimmer Merit Award is awarded annually to a swimmer nominated by a coach who has combined a high scholarly (academic) standard with swimming prowess (excellence). The swimmer must also demonstrate commitment to the sport of swimming as evidenced by their dedication to training, fair play and overall interest in club activities.
