Sport Newfoundland and Labrador, in partnership with the Department of Tourism, Culture and Recreation, has announced the names of the 23 post-secondary students who received a $500 scholarship/bursary under Sport Newfoundland and Labradors 2004 Scholarship/Bursary Program.

Dave Brenton, president of Sport Newfoundland and Labrador, said, "We are very pleased again this year with the success of our scholarship/bursary program and the impact it has on providing much needed support to this provincess post-secondary elite athletes who excel at the athletic and academic level."

Mr. Brenton stated that a total of 43 applications were received for the 2004 scholarship/bursary program. The Scholarship Committee, under the chair of director Bill Burke of Grand Falls - Windsor, met in early April and selected the scholarship/bursary recipients.

With the standards that are applied to the selection process, those students who excel at the highest performance level followed by their marks academically during the past year are the individuals who will receive a scholarship/bursary. This years selection includes 20 athletes, two coaches and one official.
