District of Port au Port receives $190,000 through Community Enhancement Program

Jack Byrne, Minister of Municipal Affairs today announced approvals valued at $190,000 for proposals submitted under the Community Enhancement Program.

"These latest funding approvals demonstrate our continuing efforts to provide opportunities for short-term employment in the Port au Port District and throughout all of Newfoundland and Labrador," stated Minister Byrne. "We will continue to work carefully to ensure that the efforts of workers are put to quality projects that enhance community infrastructure."

To date, just over $5.2 million in funding has been approved under the Community Enhancement Program.

"This allocation of $190,000 is a significant investment in my district of Port au Port," said MHA Jim Hodder. "The work to be completed as a result of this funding will enable people from my district to secure some needed short-term employment, and at the same time improve community infrastructure and increase the tourism of the area."

Proposals approved for the District of Port au Port total $190,000 and include:

  • $152,030 to Port au Port Economic Development Association for infrastructure upgrades and various projects;
  • $12,000 to Kitpu First Nation Inc for community beautification;
  • $9,970 to Local Service District of Black Duck/Winter Houses to restore One Room School House;
  • $8,000 to Women�s Institute of Kippens for renovations to Kippens Nature Trail;
  • $8,000 to Local Service District of Mainland for maintenance and improvements of ski trail;
