Districts awarded $463,000
through Community Enhancement Program
Jack Byrne, Minister of Municipal
Affairs, today announced a number of new projects approved under the
Community Enhancement Program. The projects, valued at approximately
$463,000, which received funding approval are located in the districts
of Humber East, Cape St. Francis, Terra Nova, Kilbride, Bonavista North,
Fortune Bay-Cape La Hune, Ferryland, Humber Valley and Baie Verte.
"The Community Enhancement Program
continues to provide significant investment in support of projects which
will benefit and improve the quality of services in the province,"
stated Minister Byrne. "This funding represents our ongoing efforts to
support residents requiring employment as we work within the allotted
budget to fairly distribute funding throughout the province. "
Proposals approved for the District of
Humber East total $42,000 and include:
$10,800 to the Town of Pasadena for
the rehabilitation of town buildings;
$5,800 to the Town of Massey Drive
for maintenance to trail and town hall;
$15,000 to the Town of Steady Brook
for various community projects;
$10,000 to the Pasadena Ski and
Nature Park for employees, trail groomer, Winter Games.
Proposals approved for the District of
Cape St. Francis total $19,900 and include:
$3,000 to the Town of Flatrock to
establish walking trails;
$5,000 to the Town of Pouch Cove to
replace concrete wall around swimming pool;
$3,000 to Logy Bay/Middle Cove/Outer
Cove Museum to set up displays and create signage;
$6,900 to the Town of Logy Bay/Outer
Cove/Middle Cove for repairs and upgrades to Kelly Park;
$2,000 to the Flatrock Museum for a
museum attendant.
Proposals approved for the District of
Terra Nova total $144,500 and include:
$6,000 to Our Lady of Perpetual Help
R.C. Parish for improvements to church hall and parish;
$5,000 to the Bonavista Bay Search
and Rescue Team for building upgrades;
$5,000 to the Terra Nova Trailriders
2005 Inc. for widening existing trail and brush cutting;
$10,000 to the Town of Gambo for
infrastructure repairs and trail repairs;
$5,000 to the Loyal Orange Lodge
#115 for repairs and renovations to lodge;
$8,000 to St Edward�s Anglican
Church for upgrades;
$5,000 to Harbour Authority of
Glovertown to construct building;
$7,000 Town of Sandringham for
repairs to road, warehouse and park;
$25,000 to the Town of Hare Bay to
promote natural rock formation and landscaping;
$5,000 to Port Blandford-Winter
Brook Development Association for beautification to local park;
$7,000 to Alexander Bay Lions Club
Inc. for development of park;
$8,000 to the Town of Happy
Adventure for renovations to council building;
$11,494 to the Town of Glovertown to
attach building to town maintenance shop;
$5,000 to Knox United Church for
replacement of church windows and roof;
$5,000 to the Town of Port Blandford
for brush cutting and painting town hall and fire hall;
$7,000 to the Town of St. Brendan�s
to construct multi-use building;
$5,000 to Alexander Bay Development
Association to replace front bridge on building;
$3,000 Gambo Indian Bay Development
Association to determine feasibility of fall sap for development;
$4,000 to Bunyan�s Cove Volunteer
Fire Department to build addition to fire hall;
$8,000 to Town of Dover for brush
cutting.
Proposal approved for the District of
Kilbride:
$12,000 to St. Kevin�s Parish for
parish grounds and cemetery clean up.
Proposal approved for the District of
Bonavista North:
$20,000 to the Town of Lumsden to
upgrade and extend playground.
Proposals approved for the District of
Fortune Bay-Cape La Hune total $84,000 and include:
$40,000 to the Town of Harbour
Breton to renovate several buildings in town;
$22,000 to the Town of St. Alban�s
for brush curtting and landscaping;
$22,000 to the Town of Milltown-Head
of Bay D�Espoir for brush cutting, park enhancement and
beautification.
Proposals approved for the District of
Ferryland total $48,955 and include:
$8,000 to the Southern Shore Arena
for maintenance and upgrading;
$8,700 to the Town of Port Kirwan
for renovations to town hall;
$14,000 to the Town of Cape Broyle
for pond development, roadside turnoff and swimming area;
$4,600 to the Town of Ferryland for
trail and development an renovations to community structures;
$13,700 for renovations to community
centre.
Proposals approved for the District of
Humber Valley total $40,000 and include:
$10,000 to the Harbour Authority of
Trout River to build office, supply, and storage shower facility;
$4,000 to Town of Howley for clean
up around waste disposal site;
$10,000 to the 2006 Newfoundland and
Labrador Winter Games to develop games signage;
$10,000 to Town of Cormack for brush
cutting;
$6,000 to Beaches Tourism and
Recreation Project to complete beaches monument.
Proposals approved for the District of
Baie Verte total $52,000 and include:
$5,000 to Local Service District of
Shoe Cove to upgrade existing road and create turn around;
$5,000 to Local Service District of
Jackson�s Cove, Langdon�s Cove, Silverdale for repairs and upgrade
of walking trail;
$3,000 to Calvary Pentecostal Church
for building and equipment plans for Youth Centre;
$4,000 to the Town of Pacquet to
repair roof on Fire Hall, brush cutting;
$5,000 to the Town of Beachside for
clean up of beach at day park, sod area;
$10,000 to the Town of Baie Verte
for upgrade and repairs to Community Centre Roof;
$10,000 increase to Green Bay
Economic Development Association for brush cutting;
$10,000 increase to Baie Verte
Peninsula Economic Development Association to construct shed and
brush cutting.
