Community Enhancement Program
investment of $250,000 supports
economic development and community infrastructure
Jack Byrne, Minister of Municipal Affairs, today
announced $250,000 of Community Enhancement Program approvals in support of
projects which will benefit the districts of Bonavista North, Trinity North,
Baie Verte, Ferryland, Exploits and Trinity-Bay de Verde.
�We are pleased to support projects and provide financial support for
construction, renovation and upgrades for a number of projects benefiting
recreational, tourist, fire safety, and regional facilities. The early start of
this year�s program has allowed an improved process, and provided communities
the opportunity to take advantage of weather and construction seasons,� stated
Minister Byrne. �The entire province benefits from this support as each project
enhances structures, improves services and facilities in the province. These are
practical initiatives which support short-term work requirements, while
supporting meaningful upgrades and infrastructure improvements.�
Proposals approved include:
District of Bonavista North ($94,000 )
- $24,000 to the Local Service District of
Main Point/Davidsville to construct fire bay, as well as brush cutting;
- $23,000 to the Indian Bay Snowmobile and ATV
Club for brush cutting, road upgrade and ATV trail;
- $23,000 increase to the Cape Freels
Development Association for various community projects;
$12,000 to Deadman's Bay Local Service District for fire hall renovations;
- $12,000 to the Harbour Authority of Ladle
Cove / Aspen Cove for property repairs.
District of Trinity North ($75,000)
- $25,000 to the Local Service District of
Hodges Cove for work on the fire hall, training centre and boat docks;
- $10,000 to the Town of Port Rexton to
construct intercommunity trail;
- $20,000 to the Local Service District of
George's Brook/Milton for town building renovations;
- $20,000 to Bonaventure-English Harbour
Development Association in support of renovations to BEDA building.
District of Baie Verte ($31,000)
- $10,000 to the Town of Westport in support
of wall to honour veterans, as well as other projects;
- $6,000 to the Town of Nipper's Harbour in
support of town hall renovations;
- $5,000 to the Local Service District of
Harry's Harbour in support of renovations to the fire hall;
- $3,000 increase to the Baie Verte Economic
Development Association in support of shed construction and brush cutting;
- $7,000 increase to the Town of Baie Verte
for repairs to Blagdon trail and Tommy Ricketts Arena.
District of Ferryland ($33,000)
- $30,000 to the Fermeuse Hall Committee Inc.
to replace floor in hall;
- $3,000 increase to the Town of Cape Broyle
for pond development, road work and swimming area.
The District of Exploits will receive $12,000 to
support the upgrade of RV Park for the Town of Botwood.
The District of Trinity-Bay de Verde will receive $5,000 for the Community Five
Lions Club to construct walkway.
The Community Enhancement Program is a targeted employment creation program
focused on creating short-term employment initiatives for eligible recipients,
which provide an enduring benefit to communities and have an economic
development or community infrastructure focus. Additional information on the
