Municipal infrastructure in District of Windsor-Springdale to see
improvements through $192,000 investment of Community Enhancement Program support

Jack Byrne, Minister of Municipal Affairs, along with MHA Ray Hunter today announced that financial support of $192,000 has been awarded to a number of projects in the District of Windsor-Springdale which qualified under the province�s $6 million Community Enhancement Program.

�Enhancing municipalities through investment in community projects supports government�s agenda to improve facilities and services which will not only benefit residents, but will provide added attraction for visitors,� stated Minister Byrne. �This funding for Windsor-Springdale will support significant development and maintenance, and allow towns and committees to complete work which will add lasting benefit.�

Proponents supported include:

  • $18,000 to the Town of South Brook to support work on trail and grounds;
  • $18,000 to the Town of Robert�s Arm for municipal infrastructure improvements;
  • $27,000 to the Town of Springdale for stadium renovations;
  • $10,000 to the Town of Port Anson in support of community hall renovations and upgrades;
  • $10,000 to the Town of Miles Cove for work on interior of new town hall;
  • $14,000 to the Town of Brighton for construction of storage area;
  • $8,500 to the Brighton Cemetery Committee to install galvanized fence around the community;
  • $18,000 to the Town of Pilley�s Island for renovations to the community centre and fire hall;
  • $10,000 to the Town of Lushes Bight-Beaumont for fire hall extension;
  • $8,000 to the Catholic Women�s League for renovations to kitchen of St. Joseph�s parish;
  • $20,000 to the Corduroy Brook Enhancement Association for maintenance and clearing of trail;
  • $30,000 to the Town of Triton in support of phase 2 of floating dock system.

�The funding announced today will certainly have a positive impact on my district of Windsor-Springdale,� said Mr. Hunter. �These projects approved under the Community Enhancement Program will serve to enhance community infrastructure for the benefit of area residents and assist in strengthening the tourism potential of the district.�

The Community Enhancement Program is a targeted employment creation program managed by the Department of Municipal Affairs, focused on creating short-term employment initiatives for eligible recipients. Additional information on the Community Enhancement Program can be found on //www.gov.nl.ca/mpa/enhancement/. All projects must be completed by March 31, 2006.
