Funding under Community
Enhancement Program for projects in Bonavista North
Jack Byrne, Minister of Municipal and Provincial
Affairs, and Harry Harding, MHA for the District of Bonavista North, today
announced that funding has been approved for 11 proponents valued at $159,000
under the provinces Community Enhancement Program.
"We are pleased that funding support through the Community Enhancement Program
is being spread throughout the province, and will provide improvements to both
recreation and community infrastructure for Bonavista North," stated Minister
Byrne. "The projects announced today include renovation, landscaping and
recreation initiatives, all which will enhance community services and provide a
boost to those requiring employment opportunity made available through this
program."
Projects for Bonavista North include the following:
- $14,000 to Town of Greenspond for work on
parking, picnic and rest area;
- $12,000 to Local Service District of Aspen
Cove for improvements to recreational boat launch;
- $25,000 to the Town of Musgrave Harbour to
support maintenance to fire hall;
- $20,000 to MIRA Incorporates to assist with
landscaping of Cape Island Trail;
- $15,000 to Cape Freels Development
Association in support of various projects;
- $12,000 to the Town of Indian Bay for brush
cutting;
- $10,000 to Resettler's Museum Inc. for
renovations and landscaping;
- $20,000 to the Town of Carmanville in
support of various projects;
- $15,000 to Local Service District of Gander
Bay South for community recreation initiatives;
- $5,000 to the Harbour Authority of
Carmanville for wheelguard maintenance and repairs;
- $11,000 to Frederickton Local Improvement
Committee to develop community recreation area.
"The funding announced today will allow for
significant improvements in community infrastructure and enhance the tourism
potential in my district of Bonavista North," said Mr. Harding. "These various
community projects will also create necessary employment for eligible
individuals. I am hopeful that additional projects can be approved in the near
future."
The $4.25 million Community Enhancement Program is a targeted employment
creation program focused on creating short-term employment initiatives for
eligible recipients. All projects must be completed by March 31, 2006.
