Burin-Placentia West to receive
boost of $174,000 for community improvements
Jack Byrne, Minister of Municipal and Provincial
Affairs and Clyde Jackman, MHA for the District of Burin-Placentia West today
announced Community Enhancement Program approvals valued at $174,000.
"The Community Enhancement Program has approved over $1 million in projects to
date, supporting quality initiatives which support governments agenda to provide
lasting benefit by helping strengthen rural communities and enhancing community
infrastructure," stated Minister Byrne.
Proposals approved for the District of Burin-Placentia West include:
- $6,000 to South East Bight Opportunity for
Wellness in support of addition to St. Anne's Community Centre;
- $20,000 to the Town of Fox Cove-Mortier to
renovate community centre;
- $55,000 to the Placentia West Development
Association for economic and infrastructure development;
- $40,000 to the Town of Marystown to repair
roof of the town garage and brush cutting initiatives;
- $45,000 to Burin Heritage Tourism
Association to winterize heritage structures, and support various
renovations;
- $8,000 to the Marystown Museum in support of
the development of Heritage Park.
"This is welcome news for my district of
Burin-Placentia West," said Mr. Jackman. "The approved projects will provide
some short-term employment for individuals in the area and significantly enhance
community infrastructure. There is also funding allocated for economic
development and tourism initiatives. The results of this work will be enjoyed by
the people of the area for many years to come."
The $4.25 million Community Enhancement Program is a targeted employment
creation program focused on creating short-term employment initiatives for
