Baie Verte to receive $113,800 in Community Enhancement Program Support

Jack Byrne, Minister of Municipal and Provincial Affairs, along with Paul Shelley, MHA for the District of Baie Verte, today announced that financial support of $113,800 has been awarded to projects which qualified under the province�s Community Enhancement Program.

"We are pleased that groups and organizations are submitting ideas which will support the continued development of communities throughout the province," stated Minister Byrne. "The diversity and quality of the projects supports the intention of this work initiative, and we are pleased with the cooperation of MHAs in working with the department to help identify projects which will impact residents of all ages in a positive manner. The projects approved for Baie Verte will have lasting benefit for residents and visitors to these communities through a variety of investments including support for work on the fire hall, hockey arena, and trails."

Proponents supported include:
  • $10,200 to the Town of King's Point in support of renovations to fire hall;
  • $7,600 to Green Bay Economic Development Association to construct pavilions;
  • $30,000 to Green Bay Economic Development Association for brush cutting and trail upgrades;
  • $30,000 to Baie Verte Peninsula Economic Development Association to construct shed and brush cutting;
  • $7,000 to the Dorset Snowmobile Association for snowmobile construction;
  • $5,000 to the Town of Middle Arm for preparation of whale bones and to enhance park;
  • $5,000 to King's Point Heritage Society Inc. for heritage home renovations;
  • $7,000 to the Town of Baie Verte to upgrade and repair Blagdon Trail;
  • $8,000 to King's Point and Rattling Brook Recreation Board for repairs to roof and recreation centre;
  • $4,000 to Baie Verte Hockey Association for Tommy Ricketts arena.
Minister Paul Shelley added, "These projects have started earlier this year as per the requested of the organizations and sponsors. The quality projects will be used to enhance various community and tourism infrastructure in the Baie Verte district. I look forward to working with the communities to help in their growth and development through the Community Enhancement Program."

The $4.25 million Community Enhancement Program is a targeted employment creation program focused on creating short-term employment initiatives for eligible recipients.
