Community Enhancement Program to provide $100,100 to Harbour Main-Whitbourne

Jack Byrne, Minister of Municipal and Provincial Affairs, along with Tom Hedderson, MHA for the District of Harbour Main-Whitbourne, today announced that financial support of $100,100 has been awarded to a number of proponents in the District of Harbour Main-Whitbourne which qualified under the provinces $4.25 million Community Enhancement Program.

"This program encourages quality work projects which support economic development or benefit community infrastructure," stated Minister Byrne. "Through this investment of community enhancement funding, residents of Harbour Main-Whitbourne will benefit from improvements to community structures and recreational facilities, and valuable opportunity will be provided to individuals requiring employment assistance."

Proponents supported include:

  • $10,000 to Marysvale Community Centre in support of renovations;
  • $12,000 to the Town of North River to refurbish playground and clear brush;
  • $20,000 to Whitbourne Lions Centre in support of repairs to Lions Centre;
  • $10,000 to Makinson�s Recreation and Sports Association to install chain link fence and repair playground;
  • $11,000 to Assumption Parish (R.C.) Avondale for cemetery maintenance;
  • $10,000 to Harbour Main-Chapel�s Cove-Lakeview Recreation for ball field renovations;
  • $16,000 to Parish of the Resurrection for the completion of church/community structure;
  • $11,100 to St. Anne�s Parish-Board of Administration for cemetery enhancement;
  • Minister Hedderson said: "The funding announced is welcome news for residents in my district, in particular for those in need of short term employment assistance. This funding will also allow the various sponsors and organizations to make improvements to their facilities and increase economic development in the district."

    The $4.25 million Community Enhancement Program is a targeted employment creation program focused on creating short-term employment initiatives for eligible recipients.
