Trinity � Bay de Verde to receive $94,500 in Community Enhancement Funding

Jack Byrne, Minister of Municipal and Provincial Affairs, along with Charlene Johnson, MHA for the District of Trinity-Bay de Verde, today announced that financial support of $94,500 has been awarded to a number of proponents in the District of Trinity-Bay de Verde for development, beautification and general maintenance initiatives which qualified under the provinces Community Enhancement Program.

�The Community Enhancement Program is an important component of governments economic development strategy to help strengthen rural communities by supporting labour initiatives which will have a lasting benefit and improve community infrastructure, and providing assistance to individuals requiring employment,� stated Minister Byrne. �Government has introduced this program months earlier than in previous years which will provide opportunity for pre-planning, and start-up for eligible projects. We are pleased that this program is up and running, and that communities throughout the province will experience positive return from this funding.�

Funding totaling $94,500 has been provided to the District of Trinity-Bay de Verde in support of the following initiatives:

  • $10,000 to Cabot Rock Heritage to support work on fishing stage and cookhouse;
  • $5,000 to the Salvation Army Trinity Bay South Corps for cemetery clean-up;
  • $7,500 to Winterton Futures Committee for general clean-up of community grounds;
  • $10,000 to Lower Trinity South Regional Development Association to assist with beautification of trail system;
  • $38,000 to North Shore Regional Development Association for trail development;
  • $5,000 to the Town of Heart�s Content for brush cutting, trail preparation and replacement of bridge;
  • $12,000 to Heart�s Delight-Islington Enhancement Committee for community recreation and leisure;
  • $7,000 to Hants Harbour Recreation Committee to support construction of canteen and storage facility.

�The funding announced under this year's Community Enhancement Program will provide some much needed employment for people in my district of Trinity-Bay de Verde,� said Ms. Johnson. �The significant improvements to community infrastructure resulting from these projects will provide long-term recreational opportunities for residents of the region and greatly strengthen the tourism industry within my district.�

The $4.25 million Community Enhancement Program is a targeted employment creation program focused on creating short-term employment initiatives for eligible recipients. Employment supports provided through this program are aimed at projects which provide an enduring benefit to the communities, and have an economic development or community infrastructure focus.
