West coast flooding:
Interim housing accommodations
The Newfoundland and Labrador
Emergency Measures Organization (NLEMO) in cooperation with the
Department of Human Resources, Labour and Employment offers
displaced residents in the Stephenville area the following
information:
- Financial assistance is
available to residents of Stephenville who are unable to return
to their homes due to flood damage and who need interim housing.
- Up to $650 will be provided to
assist with the cost of rental accommodations. Up to $400 will
be available for those who choose to stay with a family member
or friends to assist with the additional cost to those
households.
- Funding is also available for
the purchase of furniture.
- Applications for interim
accommodations are available at the Human Resources, Labour and
Employment office in Stephenville at 29 Carolina Drive.
Displaced residents are advised to make an appointment. The
numbers to call are 643-7954 and 643-4428.
- HRLE has a list of available
apartments in Stephenville for those who have not already found
alternate accommodations.
- Those seeking financial
assistance for interim housing should bring their social
insurance number, and a photo i.d. such as a driver�s licence.
For those who have already found accommodations, you are asked
to provide a letter confirming the address.
- Once the application has been
completed, financial assistance will be issued immediately.
The HRLE office will be open until
4:30 this afternoon, Friday, September 30 and will reopen over the
weekend, both Saturday and Sunday, October 1 and 2, between 10 a.m.
and 2 p.m.
