Additional projects approved for Crab Workers Support Program

The Department of Municipal and Provincial Affairs today announced the approval of 30 new projects valued at approximately $745,000 in support of the Crab Workers Support Program. This follows the August 23 announcement of $1.6 million of initiatives in support of the Fortune and Crab Income Support Programs.

Jack Byrne, Minister of Municipal and Provincial Affairs, is pleased that the project and application process continues to move forward. �These projects will provide quality work opportunities to crab industry workers and will assist those who may have experienced employment shortfalls as a result of the late start of this years crab fishery,� stated Minister Byrne. �Not only are these initiatives helpful to workers, but also to communities throughout the province who will experience positive improvements in infrastructure and long-term benefit to their communities as a result of the meaningful work being done.�

Approved projects include the following:

  • $7,800 to Badger�s Quay to support several renovation projects;
  • $80,900 to Bay Bulls to construct a walking trail;
  • $48,200 to Birchy Bay to enhance swimming area and park;
  • increase of $15,500 to Bonavista to extend the gift shop on the Matthew Legacy site (total project: $41,500);
  • $13,000 to Bonavista to assist with clean-up of beaches;
  • $18,700 to Brighton in support of shingling and trail cutting;
  • $5,200 to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 65 in Brigus to support renovations;
  • $61,700 to Cape Broyle to install boardwalk and brush cutting;
  • $5,700 to Catalina to assist with cemetery beautification;
  • $50,300 to Comfort Cove-Newstead to replace boardwalk;
  • $4,100 to Deadman�s Bay to help construct access road of beach;
  • $22,300 to Greenspond to continue work on the existing Greenspond trail;
  • $6,200 to Lamaline for renovations to town buildings;
  • $15,000 to Lawn to support renovations to soccer pitch and trail;
  • $28,500 to Little Catalina to remove old playground and erect new one;
  • $9,800 to Little St. Lawrence Harbour Authority to paint community stage and support road repairs;
  • $3,600 to Lush�s Bight-Beaumont for maintenance to public buildings, and $518.00 increase for various clean-up projects;
  • $12,900 to Main Point/Davidsville to construct fire bay;
  • $14,500 increase to Mary�s Harbour in support of local infrastructure improvements (total projects: $126,500);
  • $12,400 to Miles Cove to work on town hall building;
  • $25,400 to Musgrave Harbour to continue with boardwalk / walking trail;
  • $10,100 to support general clean-up in Petty Harbour;
  • $27,500 to Pilley�s Island for repairs to community buildings;
  • $7,300 to Ramea for painting and repairs to boardwalk;
  • $8,300 to Robert�s Arm for renovations to public buildings;
    $20,200 to Salmon Cove for renovations to municipal buildings;
  • $4,100 for completion of walking trail in South Brook;
  • $76,700 to enhance municipal infrastructure in St. Lawrence;
  • $74,100 to St. Mary�s for road clean-up and repair of water / sewer;
  • $16,100 to St. Vincent�s/St. Stephen�s/Peter�s River for garden construction;
  • $6,200 to assist with upgrade of infrastructure in Stoneville;
  • $32,400 for renovations to fire hall and parks in Victoria
