No need for an investigation

Tom Marshall Minister of Justice and Attorney General said today that he has seen nothing to indicate there was political interference in the handling of the David Nagle case and further, sees no need for an investigation.

Minister Marshall sent a letter today in response to allegations of wrongdoing from opposition critic Kelvin Parson. My department has been assured by the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary and the Director of Public Prosecutions that this case was investigated and prosecuted without political interference from the Premier, the Premiers staff or anyone else, Minister Marshall said. There was no attempt from outside sources to improperly influence their actions.

Given this information, an investigation is unnecessary and would be a waste of public funds, said Minister Marshall.
