Labrador Preserves
lands distribution agreements on Team Canada Atlantic Mission
The third time's the charm for
Labrador Preserves of Forteau, which on its third trip to Chicago,
landed two distribution agreements for its products. The company
secured the deals while participating on a Team Canada Atlantic (TCA)
trade mission to Chicago, Illinois from October 2-6, 2005.
Labrador Preserves has a product that can compete against the best
in the world, said Larry Stephan, marketing director for exports
for Labrador Preserves. On our previous two visits to Chicago, we
made contact with potential partners and cultivated those
relationships. Now, on our third trip to the area, we have made our
relationships official. Our persistence has paid off and we are
thrilled with the result.
Labrador Preserves signed an import distribution agreement with DPI
Midwest, one of the largest importer distributors in the US. DPI
Midwest will distribute Labrador Preserves through catalogue and
retail channels. This company specializes in organic foods, a
distinction that will be beneficial in the marketing and sale of
Labrador Preserves products. DPI Midwests largest client is Whole
Foods Market, the worlds largest retailer of natural and organic
foods, with 176 stores in North America and the United Kingdom. The
connection to Whole Foods Market, through DPI Midwest, will allow
Labrador Preserves to make significant inroads in the major US
retail market.
Labrador Preserves also secured an agreement with Chicago Importing
a large importer of Scandinavian foods to the US. Chicago
Importing will distribute Labrador Preserves product under their
Lars Own private label and will target specialty food niche
markets and catalogue and retail channels.
Our recent TCA trade mission to Chicago provided a number of
opportunities for the participating companies from Atlantic Canada
to establish valuable international contacts, said Joseph McGuire,
Minister of the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA).
Labrador Preserves capitalized on those opportunities. The company
should be commended for their hard work and diligence.
Identifying export opportunities is important to the growth of our
companies, and the experience of Labrador Preserves is a good
example of the benefits of participating in Team Canada Atlantic
trade missions, said Kathy Dunderdale, Minister of the provincial
Department of Innovation, Trade and Rural Development. I
congratulate Labrador Preserves on its achievement and anticipate it
will have continued success in the market.
Labrador Preserves gourmet spreads and syrups are made from exotic,
wild, hand-picked berries called cloudberries (bakeapples) and
lingonberries (partridgeberries) that can only be found in northern
climate regions such as Scandinavia and Newfoundland and Labrador.
