Minister announces
appointments to board of WHSCC
Paul Shelley, Minister of Human
Resources, Labour and Employment and Minister Responsible for the
Workplace Health, Safety and Compensation Commission, announced the
appointment of a new chairperson and two new members to the
commission's board of directors.
Ralph Tucker has been appointed the new chairperson of the Board of
Directors as Joan Cleary, former chairperson, has accepted a new
assignment; Fran Lake and Susan Winsor have been appointed as new
members-at-large.
�Under Mr. Tucker's direction, the board of directors will play a
critical role in participating in the upcoming statutory review and
guiding the Workplace Health, Safety and Compensation Commission as
it implements the recommendations arising from the Statutory Review
Committee,� said Minister Shelley.
�I would also like to acknowledge the work and contribution of the
outgoing chairperson Joan Cleary and members-at-large, Randy
Whitehorne and Joe Collins.�

Biographies
Ralph Tucker, Chairperson: Mr.
Tucker is currently president and CEO of Keyin College, a private
sector post-secondary institution with campuses across Newfoundland
and Labrador. Over the course of his 24 years with the college, Mr.
Tucker has demonstrated proven leadership skills in administration,
business partnerships, marketing strategies and human resource
development.
Fran Lake, Member-at-Large: Ms. Lake works as a licensed
practical nurse in Labrador. In this capacity, she has provided
services in remote communities of Labrador assisting in health
assessments. Previously, Ms. Lake has assessed and determined home
care needs for clients of the former department of Social Services.
Susan Winsor, Member-at-Large: Ms. Winsor has extensive
experience in the insurance industry, most recently as managing
director of Sunco Insurance Ltd in St. John's. She is a member of
the provincial board of directors of the Insurance Brokers
Association of Newfoundland and served as the Newfoundland
representative of the Ad Hoc Atlantic Provinces Committee, studying
proposed harmonized insurance legislation.
