Oil tank replacement completed on NLHC units in Labrador

Joan Burke, Minister of Human Resources, Labour and Employment and Minister Responsible for Newfoundland and Labrador Housing Corporation (NLHC), today announced the completion of a $59,000 fuel oil tank replacement project in Labrador.

This project is part of the corporations overall provincial plan, which has been underway for the last two years, to replace all fuel oil tanks of a 2,500 litre capacity or less by April 1, 2007, as required under government regulations, said Minister Burke. This work was also undertaken as a proactive move to reduce potential oil leaks or damage to the environment, and included the removal of abandoned oil tanks.

Through a tender awarded to CBM Construction Ltd., 29 oil tanks were replaced on non-profit social housing units throughout various communities in Labrador. The work included three single, one four-unit and four two-unit buildings in Hopedale; nine units in Nain; four single units in Makkovik and a single unit in Rigolet. The project which began in June 2005 has recently been completed.
