Minister comments on new collective agreement

Joan Burke, Minister of Human Resources, Labour and Employment and the Minister Responsible for the Labour Relations Agency, announced today that a new three- year collective agreement has been reached between East Side Marios Restaurant, St. Johns and Canadian Auto Workers Union Local 597. The new agreement was reached with the assistance of Brian Kenny, conciliator with the Labour Relations Agency.

"It is important to note successes such as this in labour negotiations, as the vast majority of collective agreements in Newfoundland and Labrador are reached without the parties resorting to strikes or lock-outs," said Minister Joan Burke. "The Labour Relations Agency has a proven record in resolving workplace disputes and in promoting harmony in our provinces workplaces. The importance of positive labour relations should not be underestimated as we strive to achieve our economic and social goals as a province."

The Labour Relations Agency is dedicated to fostering a positive labour-management climate in Newfoundland and Labrador by providing conciliation, facilitation and mediation services.
