Minister comments on new collective agreement

Human Resources, Labour and Employment Minister Joan Burke today acknowledged that a collective agreement has been reached between the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE Local 569-01) and St. Johns Sports and Entertainment Limited, operators of Mile One Stadium.

"I want to take this opportunity to congratulate both parties for their efforts in working to achieve a new three-year collective agreement," said Minister Joan Burke. "Given the implications of a labour disruption on the various events at Mile One Stadium, the hard work of both bargaining teams in achieving an agreement is to be commended. I am also extremely pleased that the conciliation services offered by the agency were of assistance to both parties involved."

The minister further noted that the new Labour Relations Agency is dedicated to fostering a positive labour- management climate in the province. "Our labour relations staff are highly trained in providing effective and quality conciliation services. It is our goal to have the agency become the leader in resolving workplace disputes, and in promoting harmony in our provinces workplaces. A good balance between business and labour during the life of collective agreements is after all, essential in reaching our economic and social goals as a province."
