Charges laid resulting
from non-compliance with Occupational Health and Safety Act
The Department of Government Services
announced today that two companies and two individuals have been
charged with alleged violations under the Occupational Health and
Safety Act and Regulations in relation to the demolition of a
building in Foxtrap in February and March of 2004.
Beothuck Environmental Ltd. and Provincial Environmental Services
Ltd., as well as the companies� owners, have been charged with six
violations under the Occupational Health and Safety Act and
Regulations and the Asbestos Abatement Regulations.
The charges stem from the demolition of a former school in Foxtrap
and generally relate to the alleged failure to comply with Stop Work
Orders to provide a safe workplace for employees and to assess the
likelihood of asbestos exposure.
The charges are the result of an investigation by the Occupational
Health and Safety Branch.
The first appearance is scheduled for April 19 at Provincial Court
in St. John�s.
