Charges laid for failing to comply with a court order

The Department of Government Services announced today that a Foxtrap construction company has been charged with alleged violations under the Occupational Health and Safety Act for failing to abide by a court order stemming from a fatal accident in 2000.

Sun Construction Company Limited faces five charges in relation to the alleged failure to comply with the sentencing provisions ordered by the court in connection with the death of a 43-year-old Holyrood man on October 27, 2000.

The court ordered the company to pay a fine of $25,000, in addition to a number of creative sentencing provisions to promote workplace safety, as a result of the fatal accident in Conception Bay South. The fine was paid in full.

The recent charges are a result of an investigation by the Occupational Health and Safety Branch relating to the sentencing provisions.

The company is scheduled to appear in provincial court April 5 in St. Johns.
