Online services now available for Registry of Deeds and Companies

The Registry of Deeds and Companies has taken an important step in modernizing its operations with the launch of new online electronic services now available through the governments Web site.

The Companies and Deeds Online (CADO) Internet system provides for the registration of companies and the filing of certain forms online, as well as enabling basic searches of the Registry of Deeds and Companies from any computer. More indepth information pertaining to deeds is available by visiting the registry in person.

"The services provided by the registries are a critical part of business in this province and this new system makes dealing with government in this area easier and less time consuming," Minister Whalen said. "We committed to providing more e-commerce in the province and Im pleased today to see the launch of these new online services at the registries."

To ensure valid title, a search of the Registry of Deeds is necessary to buy a house or any property, while all corporations in the province must be registered with the Registry of Companies.  The new online service enables individuals to access basic information at the Registry of Deeds and Companies from their own computer.

Local companies are now able to register and file annual returns, name reservations, notice of directors and notice of a change of the location of their head office online using a credit card. Certificates of good standing can also be obtained online. Companies from outside the province can also file their annual returns, a change in the location of their head office and name reservations online.

Companies and Deeds Online is a state-of-the-art computer system designed to provide improved and online services for the Registries of Deeds and Companies.  It was developed for the Department of Government Services by xwave. The first phase of the project, an intranet system available through the government network, was launched in June 2004 to allow for searches of property titles and company information from a computer within the registry. A future phase will see microfilm and paper documents converted to electronic format so they can be viewed online.

The new electronic services are available on the government Web site at www.eservices.gov.nl.ca Companies or individuals requiring further information on using the new system can contact Lorraine Vokey at (709) 729-5724.
