Premier expresses condolences on the passing of Senator C. William (Bill) Doody

"On behalf of the people and Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, I wish to express my sincere and heartfelt condolences on the passing of a great Newfoundlander and Labradorian, Senator Bill Doody.

Senator Doody was not only a statesman; he was a strong and passionate advocate for our province. First elected into the provincial House of Assembly in 1971, Senator Doody dedicated his life to serving the people of his beloved province and country, and I have always greatly admired his commitment to Newfoundland and Labrador. He was an extraordinary Cabinet Minister, working tirelessly in several portfolios to make this great province a better place. In addition to being an effective politician, the Senator was also known for his charm, wit and endearing sense of humour. We all owe him a debt of gratitude for his invaluable contribution.

I know that Senator Doody will be dearly missed by his large circle of family, friends and colleagues. He has left an indelible mark on this province, and I know the thoughts and prayers of Newfoundlanders and Labradorians are with his loved ones during this difficult time. In honour of this tremendous man, all flags at provincial buildings are lowered at half mast."
