Premier commends Jack Harris for
years of service
Premier Danny Williams today extended his best
wishes to New Democratic Party Leader Jack Harris who announced his resignation
as party leader this morning.
"I have had the pleasure of knowing Mr. Harris for a long time and I wish him
success and happiness as he moves onto new challenges," said Premier Williams.
"I have worked with Jack for many years, long before either of us entered public
life. I have always been impressed with his dedication and commitment to serving
people. From our years together as law partners to our time in the House of
Assembly, I have enjoyed great camaraderie with Jack. As a law partner he was
diligent, and as a political opponent he was fair and constructive. More
importantly, we have remained true friends regardless of our respective roles in
life."
Mr. Harris was first elected to the House of Assembly in December of 1990 and
became leader of the NDP in 1992. During that time period he has become known as
a tireless worker for the people of his district. Prior to his election as MHA
for the District of Signal Hill - Quidi Vidi, Mr. Harris and Mr. Williams worked
to together in the legal profession.
"I thank Mr. Harris for his time dedicated to serving the public of Newfoundland
and Labrador and wish him best of luck in whatever challenges and endeavours he
chooses to take on in the future," said Premier Williams.
