Premier announces special assistant and Office of the Premier in Labrador

Premier Danny Williams today announced the appointment of Win Barnes as special assistant to the Premier. Ms. Barnes will staff the Office of the Premier in Happy Valley-Goose Bay.

"I am pleased today to announce that Win Barnes will be joining our staff and working in Happy Valley-Goose Bay," said Premier Williams. "Ms. Barnes is a resident of Labrador and has considerable experience and connections to the community. I know she will provide valuable advice on issues of importance to the people of Labrador."

Ms. Barnes is a longtime resident of Happy Valley-Goose Bay. She has an extensive history of employment and community involvement having served as a member of the LIA Ratification Committee and coordinator of the Voisey�s Bay and Beyond Mining Conference and Trade Exhibition.

"Our government has a strong and clear commitment to the people of Labrador," said Premier Williams. "The region has so much to offer and is an integral part of the economic development of the province. I want to ensure that Labradorians have a direct link to the Premier�s Office and I am delighted to welcome her to this position. I am confident Ms. Barnes will be an asset as we continue to implement our vision for Labrador."

Ms. Barnes will assume her new position on July 11, 2005 allowing time to conclude current commitments.
