Social Policy Committee of Cabinet to visit Central

Members of government�s Social Policy Committee (SPC) of Cabinet will be in Central Newfoundland on Wednesday, June 8 for meetings and site visits.

SPC Chair John Ottenheimer, Minister of Health and Community Services, said committee members are looking forward to their meetings in Gander and Grand Falls-Windsor.

�Regional working visits are an important part of government�s effort to be better informed about regional priorities, social and economic activities and concerns,� said Minister Ottenheimer. �It is important to us to hear regional perspectives first-hand � from the people who live and work in the regions.�

In addition to their meetings and site visits, the ministers will host an informal reception beginning at 7:30 p.m. at the cafeteria of the College of the North Atlantic in Grand Falls-Windsor. Members of the public are invited to attend.

Media opportunities on Wednesday are available as follows:
 

  • Gander, between 8:30 a.m. and 9:45 a.m. at the Centre for Distance Learning and Innovation, Nova School Board Annex, 203 Elizabeth Avenue. The centre, in collaboration with students at some schools, will demonstrate how e-technology is used in distance education.
  • Gander, at approximately 2:15 p.m., Albatross Hotel, Salon A, ministers can be available for interviews.
  • Grand Falls-Windsor, 7:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., College of the North Atlantic, during the public reception.
