Social Policy Committee of Cabinet to meet in
Stephenville Area The Social Policy
Committee of Cabinet will be in the Stephenville area February 3 and 4.
Committee Chair, John Ottenheimer, Minister of Health and Community Services,
said this working visit is an opportunity for cabinet ministers to hear
first-hand information on local issues.
The committee host is Joan Burke, Minister of Human Resources, Labour and
Employment and MHA for St. George�s - Stephenville East. Other committee members
are Tom Marshall, Minister of Justice; Tom Osborne, Minister of Environment and
Conservation; Jack Byrne, Minister of Municipal and Provincial Affairs; Dianne
Whalen, Minister of Government Services; and Tom Hedderson, Minister of
Education. They will be joined by Port au Port MHA Jim Hodder.
Media opportunities are provided at the following events:
- 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., Thursday, February
3, in the cafeteria of the Stephenville Crossing campus of the College of
the North Atlantic where ministers will host a public meet and greet, during
which time a ceremony to officially change the name of the building will
take place.
- 8:00 a.m. to 8:40 a.m., Friday, February 4.
Ministers will help serve breakfast at three schools that participate in the
Kids Eat Smart Breakfast Program � Stephenville Primary, Stephenville Middle
and Stephenville Elementary.
Interviews can also be arranged.
Ministers will make site visits to the West Coast Correctional Centre, Sir
Thomas Roddick Hospital, College of the North Atlantic�s main campus in
Stephenville and the Community Education Network, and will hear a number of
presentations.
