Premier and government focus attention on Atlantic Accord discussions

"As everyone knows, I will participate in a meeting on Friday, January 28 with Prime Minister Martin, with a view to concluding our governments discussions on the Atlantic Accord and our provinces share of offshore revenues," said Premier Williams. "I have requested that my Cabinet colleagues clear their calendars and be readily available if required to meet on this very important matter."

A number of ministerial engagements, including federal-provincial meetings and participation in the Combined Councils of Labrador Annual General Meeting, have been cancelled so that ministers are readily available to discuss the outcome of the meeting between the Premier and the Prime Minister.

"While we sincerely regret not being available for these important events, we felt it was vital that ministers be available at this time."

Senior officials of the Departments of Fisheries and Aquaculture, Labrador and Aboriginal Affairs, Transportation and Works, Municipal and Provincial Affairs, Environment and Conservation, Tourism, Culture and Recreation, Human Resources and Employment, Innovation, Trade and Rural Development, and Natural Resources have been tasked to attend the Combined Councils of Labrador (CCL) annual general meeting (January 29-30), to receive CCL perspectives first hand.
