Government welcomes Auditor Generals report

Government welcomes the Auditor Generals report that was released today, and will thoroughly review the reports recommendations, says Loyola Sullivan, President of Treasury Board.

"While I have had only a preliminary look at the report so far, I am aware that we have already implemented specific measures to address some of the issues he raises," Minister Sullivan says. "We also acknowledge that more needs to be done, and we will continue to take measures to act on his recommendations within our capacity to do so."

Minister Sullivan said government values the role of the Auditor General and considers his report to be a working document. It will be examined in detail on an ongoing basis so that government can continue to make improvements and provide sound governance on behalf of the citizens of the province.

"Accountability and transparency are hallmarks of our administration, as demonstrated by the significant new laws we have introduced, including the Transparency and Accountability Act," he said.

"We will continue to execute that component of our agenda," the minister added. "Addressing items raised by the Auditor General will be a fundamental part of that process, particularly as it relates to another of our BluePrint commitments to be prudent fiscal managers to restore financial stability so we can dedicate appropriate resources to the economic and social well-being of the province."
