Environmental Assessment Bulletin

Environment and Conservation Minister Tom Osborne has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

UNDERTAKINGS REGISTERED:

(1) Heart�s Content Mink Fur Farm                       (Reg. 1230)
Proponent: Lower Trinity South Regional Development Association

The proponent proposes to construct a mink fur farm on a 17.5 acre site located approximately midway between the communities of Heart�s Content and Heart�s Desire, off Old Heart�s Desire Road, Trinity Bay. The proponent plans to start with 1,000 female breeders and expand to 4,000 female breeders producing approximately 20,000 kits per annum. Development at the site is proposed to include clearing a five acre area for mink storage sheds/barns (measuring approximately 137 metres by 12.8 metres) surrounded by perimeter fencing, plus a storage shed, a manure storage pad, and clearing lands for manure spreading. Construction is proposed to start in March 2006 and expand to full scale production by August 2009. The undertaking was registered on December 22, 2005; public comments are due by January 26, 2006; and, the minister's decision is due by February 5, 2006.

(2) Clarenville Mink Fur Farm                                      (Reg. 1231)
Proponent: Kenneth Mogensen

The proponent proposes to construct a mink fur farm on a 45 acre site near Georges Brook, on the north side of Route 232, Trinity Bay. The proposed fur farm will contain 4,000 female breeders producing approximately 20,000 kits per annum. A total of four to eight acres will be cleared to encompass sheds and fencing. There will be eight mink sheds (122 metres by 6.7 metres), a storage shed, perimeter fencing, temporary manure storage and access roads. Farm construction is proposed to begin in the spring of 2006. The undertaking was registered on December 22, 2005; public comments are due January 26, 2006; and, the minister's decision is due by February 5, 2006.

The minister encourages all interested parties to become involved and to make comments known. Comments on submitted documents are invited from the public, addressed in writing to the minister, and are welcome prior to the deadline date shown.
