Climate Change Workshop for Municipalities

The departments of Environment and Conservation and Municipal Affairs, along with the Newfoundland and Labrador Federation of Municipalities, are hosting a Climate Change Workshop for Municipalities on Monday, December 19, at the Capital Hotel in St. Johns. The day-long conference begins at 8:45 a.m.

The purpose of the workshop is to educate municipal leaders about adapting to climate change and the importance of planning now for potential adverse events. A complete workshop agenda, including session topics and guest speakers is attached.

Environment and Conservation Minister Tom Osborne will give the luncheon address. Members of the media are invited to attend.

"The impacts of climate change will be affected directly at the community level, and as such it is essential that municipal leaders and decision-makers are informed about the impacts of climate change and the importance of developing appropriate plans and strategies," said Minister Osborne. "That is why one of the action items in our provincial Climate Change Action Plan involved working with municipalities, and I am pleased to see this workshop taking place."
