Environmental Assessment Bulletin
Environment and Conservation Minister Tom Osborne
has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment
of the Environmental Protection Act.
UNDERTAKING REGISTERED:
Dome Mountain (Happy Valley-Goose Bay) Transmission Line
(Reg. 1226)
Proponent: Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro
The proponent proposes to construct and maintain a 25 kV single-phase
distribution line to supply electricity to a communications tower proposed to be
installed on Dome Mountain by Canadian Coast Guard. Dome Mountain is situated
west of the Goose Bay Airport near Alexander Lake and the transmission line
would run from an existing distribution line in a northerly direction for a
distance of three kilometres. Structures treated with Chromated Copper Arsenate
would be used and be single pole except where H-frame structures are required.
Construction will occur over a four to six-week period beginning in mid-June
2006. A nine metre cleared right of way would be maintained. The undertaking was
registered on November 17, 2005; public comments are due by December 23, 2005;
and, the minister's decision is due by January 1, 2006.
The minister encourages all interested parties to become involved and to make
comments known. Comments on submitted documents are invited from the public,
addressed in writing to the minister, and are welcome prior to the deadline date
shown.
UNDERTAKING RELEASED:
Grand River Snowmobile Race Track and Rally Area (Goose Bay)

Proponent: Grand River Snowmobile Club
The minister has released the above project from further environmental
assessment review subject to the following conditions:
- The facility is only permitted to operate
from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on every second Sunday as outlined in the
registration document.
- The site must be secured to prevent
unauthorized use of snowmobiles outside the timeframe outlined in condition
one.
