Environmental Assessment Bulletin

Environment and Conservation Minister Tom Osborne has announced the following event relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

UNDERTAKING REGISTERED:

Abitibi District 12 Five Year Forest Mgt. Plan Amendment (Catamaran Brook)
Proponent: Department of Natural Resources                   (Reg. 1220)

The proponent proposes to harvest up to 50,000 cubic metres of timber as sawlogs, pulpwood, or fuelwood from a productive forest area of approximately 4,000 hectares in the Catamaran Brook area, located approximately one kilometre west of Badger in Forest Management District 12. The amendment will provide an operating area and employment to local operators and loggers in the Badger area on lands recently transferred to the Crown (Department of Natural Resources) by Abitibi-Consolidated Inc. The timber to be harvested will be cut by Crown operators. The project was registered on October 18, 2005; public comments are due by November 24, 2005; and, the minister's decision is due by December 2, 2005.

The minister encourages all interested parties to become involved and to make comments known. Comments on submitted documents are invited from the public, addressed in writing to the minister, and are welcome prior to the deadline date shown.
