Environmental Assessment Bulletin

Environment and Conservation Minister Tom Osborne has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

UNDERTAKING REGISTERED:

1. Pools Cove All-Terrain Vehicle Trail                                                    (Reg. 1211)
Proponent: Connaigre Peninsula ATV Group (Mr. James Skinner)

The proponent proposes to develop a 7 kilometre long all-terrain vehicle (ATV) trail on Route 360 approximately one and a half kilometres northeast of the turn off to Pools Cove. The ATV trail will run in a generally northwest direction from Route 360. The trail is an existing one that needs to be upgraded and was formerly used by Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro to access the power distribution line running from Bay D'Espoir. The trail will be used to access cabins in the area and for hunting, fishing and other outdoor recreational uses. The undertaking was registered on August 31; public comments are due by October 7; and the minister's decision is due by October 15.

  • Pasadena/Deer Lake Resort (Golf Course & Residences) Resubmission
    Proponent: Atec Industries Inc. (Mr. Brian Pike)                                    (Reg. 1212)

The proponent proposes to develop a 18-hole golf course surrounded by 337 residential lots on a 290 hectare site to the east of the Town of Pasadena along the south side of the Trans Canada Highway in western Newfoundland. Development of the golf course is to include a driving range, irrigation system and 800 square metre, two-story club house and pro-shop. Proposed residential building lots will be a minimum of 4,000 square metres (one acre) with private waste disposal systems. Domestic and irrigation water will be sourced from Deer Lake with a pump house, water treatment and distribution system for delivery of water to the resort. Construction is planned to commence in June 2006. The undertaking was registered on September 2; public comments are due by October 7; and the minister's decision is due by October 17.

The minister encourages all interested parties to become involved and to make comments known. Comments on submitted documents are invited from the public, addressed in writing to the minister, and are welcome prior to the deadline date shown.
