Environment
and Conservation Minister Tom Osborne officially kicked off the annual No Fees,
No Fines Vehicle Emissions Clinic at the Village Mall Parking Lot in Vehicle
emissions are one of the largest contributors to air pollution, said Minister
Osborne. A key step in reducing those emissions is through public education
and awareness. The vehicle emissions clinic is a great way to increase awareness
of these emissions which have a negative impact on our environment.
I encourage motorists to participate in the clinic and do their part to
help protect the environment. The
three-day Vehicle Emissions Clinic is being held at the Village Mall Parking
Lot, The
No Fees, No Fines slogan reminds motorists that these clinics are free and there
is no fine. For a vehicle that does
fail the emissions test, motorists will be given suggestions or recommendations
for improvement. Paul
Thomey, executive director of the Lung Association of Newfoundland and Catherine
Allix, project coordinator for Smart Taxis Encouraging Environmental Respect
(STEER), is pleased to be partnering with the Lung Association and other
partners to provide these vehicle inspection emissions clinics. It is a great
way for drivers to see and learn about what comes from their vehicles, and to
think about emissions and the effect our driving habits have on them.
