Environmental Assessment Bulletin

Environment and Conservation Minister Tom Osborne has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

UNDERTAKINGS RELEASED:

1. Jumper�s Brook Road Stock Car Racetrack                           (Reg. 1179)
Proponent: Mr. Robert D. Hutchings

The minister has released the Jumper�s Brook racetrack from further environmental assessment review subject to the following condition:

  • An Environmental Protection Plan must be submitted for approval prior to commencing construction on the site. This plan should provide detailed project features and mitigative measures to prevent or lessen the potential negative effects of the undertaking upon the environment.

2. Charleston Feed Kitchen and Mink Pelting Operation                       (Reg. 1186)
Proponent: Charleston Mink Company Ltd.

3. Plateau Dolomite Quarry, East of Wabush Lake                       (Reg. 1188)
Proponent: Iron Ore Company of Canada

The minister has released the Plateau Dolomite Quarry from further environmental assessment review subject to the following conditions:

  • An Environmental Protection Plan must be submitted and approved by this department prior to any activity on the site, and it must address, but is not limited to, matters pertaining to nesting birds, domestic wood cutting, local cottage owners and the "no cut" minimum buffer established for Wabush Lake.
     
  • An Employment Equity Program must be developed and approved by the minister responsible for the Status of Women prior to any activity on the site.

4. Deer Harbour (Hodges Cove) ATV Trail                         (Reg. 1191)
Proponent: Deer Harbour Trails Association Inc. (Mr. Max Smith)

The minister has released the Deer Harbour ATV trail from further environmental assessment review subject to the following condition:

  • The width of the trail is to be restricted to two metres.
