Environment and Conservation Minister
Tom Osborne has announced the following events relative to Part 10
Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.
UNDERTAKINGS REGISTERED:
(1) Lawn Mink Farm
(Reg. 1198)
Proponent: T & E Enterprises
The proponent proposes to raise mink within the municipal boundary
of the Town of Lawn on the Burin Peninsula. The proposed site is one
hectare in size and is located approximately 500 metres south of
some local barns and approximately 500 metres north of a salt fish
plant. The project will include: importing 1,000 impregnated female
mink that will yield an average of four kits per adult, feed
kitchen, equipment storage area and a number of mink sheds. The
undertaking was registered on May 31, 2005; public comments are due
by July 6, 2005; and, the minister's decision is due by July 15,
2005.
(2) Wabush PCB Storage Facility
(Reg. 1199)
Proponent: Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro
The proponent proposes to construct a Polychlorinated Biphenyl (PCB)
storage facility at their Wabush Line Depot/Office in Labrador. The
facility will be a new pre-engineered, pre-assembled metal building
measuring approximately four metres in length, three metres wide,
and three metres high. The building will have a secondary
containment system incorporated into its design. The facility will
accommodate PCB contaminated electrical equipment and transformers
oil that has been removed from service in Hydro�s Transmission and
Rural Operations (Labrador West) operating area. The installation
and commissioning of the facility is tentatively scheduled to occur
this September. The undertaking was registered on May 31, 2005;
public comments are due by July 6, 2005; and, the minister's
decision is due by July 15, 2005.
The minister encourages all interested parties to become involved
and to make comments known. Comments on submitted documents are
invited from the public, addressed in writing to the minister, and
are welcome prior to the deadline date shown.
UNDERTAKING RELEASED:
(1) Marble View Estates Residential Development
(Reg. 1180)
Proponent: Sharpe�s Frozen Foods
The minister has released the undertaking subject to an undisturbed
buffer being maintained along the 1:100 year flood line for the
Humber River.
