Province shares water
resources management expertise with Egyptian delegation
The Minister of Environment and
Conservation, Tom Osborne, today extended a welcome to an Egyptian
delegation visiting St. Johns on an information exchange to assist
the Government of Egypt in the area of water resources management.
The delegations visit to the province is part of a National Water
Quality and Availability Management Program, which is a joint
initiative of the Government of Egypts Ministry of Public Works and
Water Resources and the Government of Canadas Canadian
International Development Agency.
"Government is extremely pleased to share its water quality and
monitoring expertise with the Egyptian delegation during its visit
to Newfoundland and Labrador," said Minister Osborne. "Having such a
delegation come to our province to acquire knowledge on water
resources management and learn from our experience and approach to
water quality management is indeed a unique international
recognition of the expertise that exists in the Water Resources
Management Division of the Department of Environment and
Conservation."
Minister Osborne added that the projects goal is to assist various
Government of Egypt national institutions to manage water resources
in three key areas, including improved water quality and quantity
data, better analysis of supply demand variables, and safe re-use of
drainage water.
The delegations visit to the province includes meetings and
training sessions with the departments water resources officials on
water quality monitoring, data analysis, management and
communication.
"I wish the Egypt delegation both a productive and enjoyable visit
to our province and I would also like to thank officials in my
department for their participation in this valuable project," said
Minister Osborne. "Government is committed to sound and prudent
water resources management and we are delighted to be able to share
our expertise with the Government of Egypt and assist them in
whatever way possible in this area."
The six-member delegation, representing a number of national
institutions in Egypt, arrived in St. Johns on April 17 and will
return to Egypt on April 30.
