Minister announces
appointments to MMSB Board of Directors
Environment and Conservation Minister
Tom Osborne today announced three new appointments to the
Multi-Materials Stewardship Board�s (MMSB) Board of Directors. The
new board members are: Paul Hanlon, St. John�s; Hal Cormier, Corner
Brook; and Maisie Clark, Campbellton.
Minister Osborne said, "Government values the advice given by
members of the MMSB Board of Directors who play an important role in
our efforts to ensure a clean and healthy environment throughout
Newfoundland and Labrador. We believe these individuals will make a
valuable contribution to MMSB and I wish them success in their new
roles."
The new board members are appointed for a three-year term.
Other members of the MMSB Board include chair and CEO John Scott,
Paul Dean, John Patten, Edward Delaney, Dr. Bassem Eid, Catherine
Barrett, Derm Flynn and Don Hann.
Departing members of the board were also commended today by Minister
Osborne. "I would like to take this opportunity to also thank
outgoing members for their contribution to MMSB and wish them
continued success in the future."
MMSB is a provincial Crown agency which reports to the Minister of
Environment and Conservation. Its mandate is to support progressive
waste management practices in the province, with a particular focus
on waste diversion, recycling and public education, in order to
ensure a clean and healthy environment throughout Newfoundland and
Labrador.

BACKGROUNDER
Paul Hanlon is currently a senior supervisor with Newfoundland and
Labrador Hydro. Mr. Hanlon has been working with Newfoundland and
Labrador Hydro since 1986. He is an experienced supervisor and
business analyst with comprehensive skills in analysis, strategic
planning and project implementation. He has completed numerous
accounting and business courses in the Commerce (Co-op) Business
Program. Mr. Hanlon is also a volunteer with the Capital Development
Alliance Board.
Hal Cormier is currently a scheduling planner with Corner Brook Pulp
and Paper Limited (CBPP) and has been with the company since 1990.
Mr. Cormier has also worked as laborer and papermaker with CBPP. He
is director of the Corner Brook Triathlon Committee and ITU World
Cup, as well as a ski instructor and coach at Marble Mountain, Ski
White Hills.
Maisie Clark is the mayor of Campbellton and known as a dedicated
member of society promoting health and well being of all persons and
their environment. Ms. Clark is knowledgeable in environmental
issues and is involved in various environmental activities in her
community. She is the recipient of Newfoundland and Labrador
Volunteer Medal Award. Other activities include a member of North
Haven Manor Advisory Committee Central West Health Board, public
relations advisor to the Road to the Isles Association, the Girl
Guides of Canada Area Commissioner for central east area, a Girl
Guide provincial trainer and a Duke of Edinburgh advisor.
