Environmental Assessment Bulletin

Environment and Conservation Minister Tom Osborne has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

UNDERTAKINGS REGISTERED:

(1) Jumper's Brook Stock Car Race Track                                   (Reg. 1179)
Proponent: Mr. Robert D. Hutchings

The proponent proposes to construct a dirt race track at Jumper's Brook Road. The site is located approximately seven kilometres east of Bishops Falls, and approximately 1.5 kilometres south of the Trans Canada Highway in Central Newfoundland. The facility will be used as a stock car race track from May to October and snowmobile race track from October to May. A four-metre by four-metre wood framed building will be built on site and portable toilets will be used. Construction is scheduled to begin April 2005. The undertaking was registered on February 24; public comments are due by April 1; and the minister's decision is due by April 10.

(2) Eddie's Cove East to Castor River South Snowmobile Trail                  (Reg 1178)
Proponent: Long Range Riders Snowmobile Club

The proponent proposes to complete a secondary snowmobile trail from Eddie�s Cove East to Castor River South on the Great Northern Peninsula. This will include removing stumps from existing trails to assist grooming and to construct a building to store the trail groomer and other operational equipment. Construction will consist of cutting the 15 kilometres of trail which remains to connect some communities to the main trail. Also, stumps will be removed from all 100 kilometres of secondary trail. Some trail intersections will be widened to increase safety, and 25 kilometres of new trail will be cut to access two lakes in the area. Proper signage will also be erected along the trail. The undertaking was registered on February 24; public comments are due by April 1; and the minister's decision is due by April 10.

The minister encourages all interested parties to become involved and to make comments known. Comments on submitted documents are invited from the public, addressed in writing to the minister, and are welcome prior to the deadline date shown.
