Minister celebrates Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week

Education Minister Tom Hedderson is pleased to take the opportunity today to remind all Newfoundlanders and Labradorians that February 13-19 is Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week.

"I had the privilege of working alongside some inspiring individuals during my 20-year career as a teacher and principal," said Minister Hedderson. "I watched their dedication and commitment each day as they engaged and encouraged their students. The success our students achieve is due in no small part to the learning environments created and nurtured by our teachers, support staff and school volunteers.

"Educators in this province consistently demonstrate a level of performance and teaching excellence that has resulted in the significant gains we have seen in student achievement, as measured by international assessments such as PISA. However, leaders do more than foster growth in learning. They are mentors and role models for our young people."

Sponsored annually by the Canadian Home and School Federation, Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week encourages everyone to recognize the important contribution of teachers and school staff to the lives of children and their education.
