Minister announces appointments to MUN Board of Regents

Education Minister Tom Hedderson today announced the latest appointments to Memorial University�s Board of Regents. 

Patsy S. Coish-Snow (Clarenville), Wynanne Downer (Corner Brook), and Mary Broderick (Baie Verte) have been appointed by the Lieutenant Governor in Council in accordance with the Memorial University Act. Gary Peddle (St. John�s) will serve as the MUN alumni member, while Thom Duggan (St. John�s) is the student representative. 

"These individuals bring a wealth of expertise to the existing board, and I am delighted they have accepted their nominations," said Minister Hedderson. "The Board of Regents is an integral part of Memorial University and it is critical that members have a strong commitment to the future of the university. I look forward to working with them and all members of the board as we continue to enhance Memorial�s programming and services." 

Patsy Coish-Snow is currently chief executive officer with the Peninsulas Health Care Corporation and has extensive experience with the province�s health care system. She holds a masters degree in health service administration. 

Dr. Wynanne Downer is a curriculum consultant with Breakwater Books and has extensive experience with secondary education, adult learning, literacy and health and women�s issues. 

Mary Broderick holds a masters degree and has been a primary school teacher for more than 30 years. She is actively involved in her church and has held various executive positions with the 4H Association, an organization dedicated to the personal development of youth. 

During a recent election, Gary Peddle was recognized as next in line for appointment as the MUN alumni representative. Mr. Peddle is a St. John�s lawyer as well as president of the Alumni Association at Memorial. He also volunteers with many community organization such as Big Brothers, Big Sisters, the Rotary Club and the Victorian Order of Nurses. 

Thom Duggan is a political science major at Memorial and held the position of vice-president communications and external relations of MUN�s student union. He also has extensive community volunteer work. 

Memorial University Board of Regents is responsible for the management, administration and the affairs of the university. It comprises a diverse group of individuals representing business, social, educational sectors and students.
