Auditor General releases Report to the House of Assembly on the Review of the Office of the Citizens Representative (Supplementary Report re: Cellular Telephones)

John L. Noseworthy, C.A., Auditor General, today released his Report to the House of Assembly on the Review of the Office of the Citizens Representative (Supplementary Report re: Cellular Telephones).

The report presents findings from the Auditor Generals supplementary review of cellular telephone records for the Office of the Citizens Representative, as well as an appendix containing the initial report on the review of that office which was provided to the Members of the House of Assembly on January 26, 2005.

Mr. Noseworthy identified eight inconsistencies between times and location of travel as recorded on travel expense claims submitted by the Citizens Representative and times and location of travel identified on the cellular telephone records for the telephone assigned to the Citizens Representative. These eight inconsistencies were identified in 43 trips reviewed. Of particular concern is an inconsistency relating to a travel expense claim for personal vehicle mileage to and from Port aux Basques where cellular telephone records indicate that the Citizens Representatives telephone was being used in Nova Scotia on the day that travel was claimed for driving across the province.

Mr. Noseworthys report is available on the Office of the Auditor General Web site at www.gov.nl.ca/ag.
