Road improvements announced for Cape St. Francis

Tom Rideout, Minister of Transportation and Works, and Jack Byrne, MHA for the District of Cape St. Francis, today announced that funding from the 2004 Provincial Roads Improvement Program has been allocated to the district.

"I am pleased to announced that the road users of Cape St. Francis will see improvements in their roads in the coming year," said Minister Rideout. "The work planned for the district is part of the $30 million provincial roads program announced in the 2004-05 provincial budget and is valued at $845,000."

Road work planned for the area includes:

  • upgrading a section of Windgap Road in Flatrock;
  • upgrading and paving a section of road on Bauline Road;
  • upgrading and paving a section of road on Bauline Line;
  • replace a culvert on Route 20, at Pine Line, Torbay;
  • replace a culvert on Route 20, at the bottom of Piper Stock Hill Road, Torbay.

"We also plan to enter into a 50-50 cost sharing initiative with the City of St. John�s to do work on a section of Portugal Cove Road between the Outer Ring Road and Airport Heights," said Minister Rideout.

"Upgrades in infrastructure are always welcomed," MHA Jack Byrne said. "While I am delighted with the projects for the district, I am particularly pleased with the plan to do work on Portugal Cove Road with the City of St. John�s."
