Road work announced for Port au Port

Tom Rideout, Minister of Transportation and Works, and Jim Hodder, MHA for the District of Port au Port, today announced roads work for the district under the Provincial Roads Improvement Program.

"The 2004-05 provincial budget allocated $30 million for improvement and construction of provincial roads, a $7 million increase over the previous year," said Minister Rideout. "This is part of government commitment to providing a safe and reliable transportation network to the people of the province."

"We plan to upgrade and re-pave a section of Route 460 near Port au Port West, within the district, at a cost of $500,000," said Minister Rideout. "I expect to tenders to be called in the near future."

MHA Hodder said, "I am pleased that government would commit these funds to the district at this time and I�m sure it will enhance the safety of motorists in the region."
