Road work announced for Placentia and St. Marys

Tom Rideout, Minister of Transportation and Works, and Fabian Manning, MHA for the District of Placentia and St. Marys, today announced roads projects for the district under the Provincial Roads Improvement Program.

"I am delighted to announce today that the District of Placentia and St. Marys will receive an allocation of more than $1.1 million for road work in the area," said Minister Rideout. "I recently visited the area and know first hand of the horrible road condition. This allocation will benefit the road users in the region, as well as the thriving local tourism industry."

Projects planned for the district include:

  • repairs to the Sir Ambrose Shea Lift Bridge;
  • upgrading and resurfacing areas along Route 90.

"We also plan to carry out work at Point Lance and in the Town of Placentia. I expect tenders to be issued in the near future," said Minister Rideout.

MHA Fabian Manning said: "This funding comes as welcomed news to the district. The conditions of our roads has been well documented and I am glad government took notice and recognized the needs of the people in Placentia and St. Marys."
