Road work announced for Baie Verte District

Tom Rideout, Minister of Transportation and Works, and Paul Shelly, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation and MHA for the district of Baie Verte, today announced roads projects for the district to be completed in 2004-2005.

"The Department of Transportation and Works is committed to improving and upgrading roads infrastructure throughout the province," said Minister Rideout.

Projects planned for the Baie Verte district include:

  • repair of foundation protection and replacement of expansion joints at Bullies Brook
  • repair of wing walls and abutments at Burlington Bridge

Tenders will also be called for the upgrading and paving of sections of road in LaScie (Route 414), as well as work in Nippers Harbour, Harry’s Harbour, Wild Cove, Fleur de Lys and Little Bay. In total, approximately $1.9 million will be spent in the district.

"As MHA for the Baie Verte District, I have lobbied for years for adequate resources to upgrade vital transportation infrastructure in the district," said Minister Shelley. "This investment reflects government’s commitment to upgrading infrastructure in the Green Bay and White Bay regions of the province, resulting in improved roads for residents and increased tourism potential for the entire region."
