Lake Melville to benefit from provincial roads program

Tom Rideout, Minister of Transportation and Works, and John Hickey, MHA for Lake Melville, today announced roads projects for the district under the provincial roads program.

"In keeping with governments commitment to a safe and reliable transportation network, this years provincial budget saw an allocation of $30 million to the Provincial Road Improvement Program," said Minister Rideout. "This was a $7 million increase over the previous year. I am please to announce multiple projects that will take place in the district of Lake Melville in the coming year, under this program."

Planned projects for Lake Melville include:

  • slope stabilization, Penas River Bridge
  • ditching and culvert replacement on Route 520
  • paving a section of Route 500 at Churchill Falls

This years program provides funding for upgrading and improving the provincial highway network including the rehabilitation and replacement of bridges and culverts. These three projects are valued at $1.3 million and I expected tenders to be issued shortly,"said Minister Rideout.

MHA Hickey said, "I am delighted with the allocation for Lake Melville under the provincial roads program and these projects will enhance the safety of the traveling public."
